Sick Child Visits & After-Hours Care

Same-day appointments when your child is unwell, and a nurse or doctor to call after we close.

What We Do

When your child needs to be seen today

Office hours are by appointment. Call as early in the day as you can — same-day sick appointments fill from the morning, and calling early gives us the best chance of fitting your child in.

If the matter is urgent, say so clearly when you call. Our front desk will get you to a nurse.

Common reasons for a sick visit

  • High or persistent fever
  • Any unusual symptom lasting more than three days in a row
  • Persistent pain — stomachache, sore throat, headache, or earache
  • Basic injuries

Not every illness needs an office visit. If you are unsure, speak with one of our nurses and they will help you decide what makes sense.

Booking for more than one child? Each child needs their own appointment. A child seen without one puts us fifteen to twenty minutes behind for every family after you.

After-hours care

Plenty of common concerns — ear pain, a sore throat — can be talked through and managed at home until we reopen. That saves you a long emergency-room wait, an ER copay, and a clinician who has never met your child.

For an urgent matter after hours, call the main number for either office. The answering service will either reach a triage nurse or the physician on call.

If you have not heard back within about an hour, call the answering service again and tell them you are still waiting. One thing that catches families out: if you have Anonymous Call Rejection on your line, our callback may not reach you. Dial *87 to turn it off.

When to call 911 instead

Go straight to emergency care, without calling us first, if:

  • Your child is not breathing, or is in severe respiratory distress
  • Your child shows signs of an anaphylactic reaction — usually hives, with vomiting, wheezing, or difficulty breathing
  • Your child is unconscious and cannot be roused
  • Your child has had a traumatic injury, cannot move their arms or legs, or has severe neck pain
  • There is severe bleeding you cannot control

Common illnesses we see

Some of what comes up most often has a page of its own — what to look for, how it’s diagnosed, and when to call:

  • Strep Throat — testing, treatment, and why finishing the antibiotics matters
  • Asthma — recognising it, triggers, and keeping it well managed
  • Food Allergies — signs of a reaction, common triggers, and what anaphylaxis looks like
  • Allergen Skin Testing — how allergy testing works and what results mean
